First of all, the proposal for a dissertation is to be coherent and logical. Always keep in mind what you PROPOSING for the dissertation. Roughly speaking, the proposal should make sense and, of course, it needs to be strong, it should contain the main concepts of what you want to say and do in your dissertation.

 

Standard Dissertation Proposal should include the following:

 

1. INTRODUCTION should identify topic, provide background information on the topic, direct the paper, and offer a clear, unambiguous thesis, - all this assuming that readers are not familiar with the topic. Introduction should answer the questions: WHY this research should be done (Purpose of this study, id. what you intend to explore and what you intend to do with it or at least what can be done; purpose also highlights the urgency and actuality of the research, id.  why this research is WORTH doing, what can be done with it (e.g. contribution to literature on topic, enrich field, practical benefits, etc.) and who cares about this kind of topic.

2. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK (id. the seminal work from which the whole research idea derives) should contain the Literature Overview and clear argumentation of how this research will fit in with what has already been said and/or done.

3. RESEARCH QUESTIONS AND HYPOTHESIS (roughly speaking, what you are trying to find out/prove), should include Methodology Section, unless specified otherwise by the customer.

4. CONCLUSION.

5. REFERENCES (formatted accordingly, depending on citation style appropriate/indicated by the customer).

 

More recommendations:

 

- Include at least one quote that establishes scholarship and authority.
- Introduction should make clear who the audience for the paper is.
- Introduction should offer relevant background, not just an encyclopedia style biography.
- Introduction should engage reader.
- Prose should be clean, clear, and free of mechanical errors.
