Probably another title for our century will be “age of plagiarism“. Here there is no exaggeration as this phenomenon has entered all spheres of our modern life.
We are especially concerned with plagiarism expansion at colleges and universities. The present situation in educational environment is really critical.
Now more and more students are using custom writing services for completing their academic papers. The abundance and severe competition among these paper mills make it even easier for a student to buy a custom term paper or essay. The quality of the paper may be rather high as they are written by professional writers and researchers and the student will get a good mark for it. But will the students learn something with such an approach? Will they indeed obtain necessary practical knowledge and acquire research skills that written assignments target at?
The answer is obvious: ordering a paper even of the highest quality does not contribute to a student’s personal academic growth.
Surely, the students tend to choose easier way of getting their degree and thus they forget about such things as self-development, self-education and progress.
Young people stop thinking, applying and developing their innate capabilities, and that is sad. We cannot blame students as they have their own reasons for that and we have to respect their motives. A recent research has highlighted the main reasons of students’ cheating: tough time limits for completing the paper, aspiring to get a higher grade, teacher’s indifference, etc. Analysing the results of the research it becomes evident that educators should stimulate the students’ interest in writing, and implement a more efficient anti-plagiarism policy.
Now it is time to revive primary educational values and the first step is to encourage students to cope with the writing assignments themselves. Because really educated people have no fear or difficulty in expressing their ideas and thoughts on paper.
